There are four trumpets and three celli on this recording.
The chelli's low register & fretless glissandi and also the
slides played by George on his Stratocaster (he recorded
two tracks for this purpose), would be extremely difficult
to reproduce on a conventional guitar, unless using a slide
and a modified tuning. There are two more guitars on the 1st
third of the song: John's arpegiated one, which he played on
his Casino and a second with a bass played by George, surely
also on his Strato.
To be able to play the celli part & George's bass on guitar,
tune low E string to Db so you can reach the low notes. It
won't be a bother at all for playing the mellotron bits and
the brass, the piano or George's svaramandal.
The intro on mellotron by Paul is just as beautiful, as it is
John's picking, which reminds me a lot of She Said She Said.
That guy knew how to play guitar (remember his solos on You
can't Do That, Hey Bulldog, One After 909 or Get Back among
others?) Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever, of course,
are really great works of art, as She Said She Said is.
